$4.99 Liquid Lipsticks Say Whaaa? | Liquid Lipstick Showdown

Yeah, you heard me. $4.99. Sounds too good to be true, considering the alternatives, Anastasia Beverly Hills or Kat Von D liquid lipsticks, which are great, don’t get me wrong, but those guys are $20 a tube! Yikes!

I’m a big fan and avid supporter of the liquid lipstick trend! I’ve tried about every formula and brand that I can get my hands on so far, so I definitely have some opinions and comparisons to make!

Let me start by saying which ones I have tried & loved; My Kat Von D Everlasting liquid lipstick in the shade Lolita has never served me wrong, I’ve been rocking that 1 for almost 3 years! The formula is great and the lasting quality is too! Another formula I love is the Anastasia of Beverly Hills liquid lipsticks, you know, the one’s that kinda started this whole thing and took over the world with their launch, yeah, those ones. They’re great too! I will say that the ABH ones have a little more of a watery consistency as they go on in comparison to Kat Von D, but still have great lasting power, and they’re both super comfortable on the lips!

The Sephora Collection brand has an item on the market that I love called the “cream lip stain” whilst not claiming to be a liquid lipstick, it has all the pigmentation of a lipstick and the comfort of a stain, feels like nothing on the lips! But still comes in at $14 a shade! :/

A few I have tried and neither loved nor hated were the Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Lipsticks and the Smashbox Always On liquid lip! Nothing to freak out about, but I just don’t find myself reaching for them time after time!

Some that I have tried and HATED are as follows:

the Kylie Cosmetics liquid lipsticks… I’m sorry, but they are NOT good! And I think most people know that and just don’t want to say anything against them cause it’s “Kylie,” but heck, I’ll say it: DO NOT waste your money!!! I’ve never had a more uncomfortable, heavy formula on my lips! Sooo not worth the money!

NYX Liquid Suedes ($6.99) OMG. HORRIBLE. There’s nothing suede about them, so drying, so crusty, and so “oh my gosh get this off my lips!”

The ColourPop Ultra Matte liquid lipsticks ($6) might as well be called the Ultra Drying Liquid Lipsticks. These are SO uncomfortable! I feel like I can’t even open my mouth nor make any facial expressions, without them cracking off my lips!

So what have we learned? Most of the time cheap means you’re getting what you’re paying for! Or so I thought.. then Wet N Wild went and launched their Megalast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick and changed that stereotype… and blew my mind!

You heard me, these bad boys are $4.99!!! WHAT! So now you’re probably thinking, so they’re probably terrible then, right? WRONG. These are actually amazing!! I feel like Wet N Wild was just waiting to release these and smack everyone in the face with their incredible formula, that no one saw coming!!!

On their website, they claim:

  • Glides on glossy and transforms into high – pigmented matte finish
  • Lightweight formula made with serious staying power
  • Intense pigmentation without drying the lips

YES, they glide on like butter and dry down completely matte and completely undetectable on the lips! I was shocked. They have a very watery, thin, not thick at all, formula, making it easy to maneuver onto the lips and spread out evenly! The formula reminds me a lot of the ABH liquid lipsticks, but the price point, not so much. $4.99 – $20 ?? you decide.

They come in 13 different shades and are available at Walgreens, Ulta, Target, and WetNWild.com.

I only purchased 4 shades so far, and they’re swatched down below on my skin tone (from top to bottom): Gothic Topic, Give Me Mocha, Rebel Rose and Nudie Patootie.

They’re amazingly pigmented and they have a pretty great color selection to choose from so far! As you can see in the swatches, the darker shades are a little more streaky than the lighter ones, which is very typical with liquid lipsticks! So you just have to work with that a little bit, but the formula is so lightweight that building it up in those areas does not create an issue, as it can with many other liquid lipstick formulas!

Let’s talk about the wand! The doe-foot applicator is completely different from any other I have seen and I love it! It dips in, right where it would lay and glide on your lips with their natural curves and contours! It makes application a breeze!

Their lasting power though –> I put the shade “Gothic Topic” on this morning (Sunday) at 11 AM and by 4 PM, it still looked amazing! I drank 2 cups of coffee and had lunch while rocking the lip color, and only had to fix a tiny bit on the inner rim of my lips, where most lipsticks disappear when you eat anyways! I didn’t notice any feathering happening on my outer corners, and my lip line stayed sharp!! OBSESSED.

Verdict? TRY THEM OUT. I do not think you’ll be disappointed! I have found myself reaching for them everyday since I got them! And I love them!

Seriously, for $4.99 what do you have to lose?!
