Hey there and happy almost weekend!
I am beyond excited for this post!
I decided to try something a little different this time around. I wanted to shed light on a unique, smaller brand I stumbled upon on Instagram, and also get to know the artist behind the magic; Plus, her brand totally fits my style.
If you don't know anything about me, you can describe my fashion sense as "boho," and if you've ever read one of my fashion blog posts, that's probably evident. But my overall style is all-things-bohemian as well. From my pillows, to my shoes, to my candle holders, to my rugs, I'm obsessed.
And every inch of my bedroom is decked out in that boho-style, I'm talking fringe galore, tassel-mania, and succulents everywhere. EVERYWHERE.
I say all that to say, I stumbled upon Sundays Design Studio by Heidi Pullman, in Santa Barbara, California. Sundays Design Studio was officially up and running in January of 2017, and Heidi is a fiber design artist, and if you don't know what that means, then just keep reading. 😉
I'll get to her brand in a minute, but let's meet Heidi.
Heidi is an artist, a wife, a lover, a friend, a daughter of the King, and a total dog person, although she's starting to warm up to cats. (Keep it up, Heidi, you'll love the cat side of life! ;)) Heidi and her husband Kyle have an undying love for wine and the wine making process. Her and her husband are members at a few different local wineries in Santa Barbara. One of the spots her and her hubby visit frequently, if it isn't the valley, is the beach; And oh, did I mention her husband is a surfer? How neat!
Sundays Design Studio is so unique and unlike any brand I've come across before. Heidi creates these hand-woven, decorative, beautiful fiber design pieces perfect for your living room, your bedroom, your hallways, your mom's living room, your sister's bedroom, your grandma's kitchen and every other inch of a home you can think of. Seriously, you'll want to order 1,000.
The art of what she creates is known as, Macramé: the art of knotting cord or string in patterns to make decorative articles; fabric or articles made by knotting cord in patterns. She can create anything from wall hangings (where it all started) to planters, garlands, wedding backdrops, key chains, pacifier clips, backpacks, clutches, tassels, and yoga mat straps, or anything else you can come up with.
You've probably seen a piece like this here and there, but weren't quite sure what to call it or what it even was. Well I'll tell you what it is when you purchase a design by Heidi, it's hours and hours of hard work, dedication, passion, love, prayer, creativity, and more. You aren't just receiving a beautiful, handmade product, you are supporting an amazing woman.
For Heidi, inspiration comes from following some of her favorite macrame artists on social media and even from her husband and friends too! They are always supporting her and coming up with fun ideas as far as colors, styles, and textures.
Not only that, but whenever she's perhaps in a creative rut or is just looking for inspiration, she goes to the Lord, and I think that is incredible.
"He’s very much at the center of inspiration and creativity in everything that I design with my hands. "
So you're probably wondering how it all began? Well…
Heidi's husband Kyle really pushed her to turn her art from a hobby to a job!
"I started an Instagram account in 2013 called "Hello Sundays Paper," where I was selling handmade stationery, as well as wedding stationery via Illustrator and Indesign (wedding invites, save the dates, bridal shower invites, bachelorette invites, menus, etc.) It was a great practice run that prepared me for what I am doing now, but after 6 months of selling on Instagram and etsy, I wasn’t passionate about it any more."
So from there, Heidi was working 3 jobs, and kept crafting on the side as a fun thing to do with her friends; She's always been a very creative person.
It wasn't until about 7 months ago that she discovered the art of macrame! So then what? Youtube, of course! She got on Youtube and learned a thing or two about how to make yarn wall hangings and from there went on to learn more about macrame specifically, and the rest is history.
"When I saw that other people were as excited about my art as I was, and actually wanted to pay me for them, I knew this was the creative niche that I had been unknowingly searching for. I felt like I had found my purpose and it was/still is incredibly life-giving… I wanted to put all of my focus and energy into one thing and be the very best I could be in that area. That was the best decision I could have ever made."
Something that I think is so awesome, and really sets her brand apart from everyone else in this artistic field, is your ability to make custom orders! Not only is it an option, but Heidi LOVES custom orders!
"It's so fun coming up with something brand new with a client and watching it come to life!"
Literally think up something you want her to create and she can do it, and can do it really, really well.
The piece I received from sweet Heidi is absolutely stunning and looks amazing in my bedroom! I am obsessed with black, if you didn't know that about me, now ya do! I love all things black! And I think this piece is even more amazing because it's black!
Heidi's artistic ability is unreal! I mean look at that intricate detailing!
My design fits perfectly over my desk where I spend a lot of my time writing and working! I love having this unique piece to look at every time I'm at my desk!
I know, I know, you're thinking okay, okay, that's all fine and dandy, but HOW DO I PLACE MY ORDER!!! Well, Sundays Design Studio is only present on Instagram! She strictly uses Instagram and venmo/checks or cash for ordering and payments. So head over HERE to give this girl a follow, and to, of course, purchase!!
"It's an insanely easy/effective marketing platform to use as a small business! I think it means a lot to the customer when they get to talk directly to me as the artist via Instagram direct message."
I LOVE the personal aspect of it. I love every aspect of it actually.
So what are you waiting for? If this is something you find unbelievably intriguing, beautiful, and unique, I suggest you put your head together with Heidi's and get to work on something magical!
Thank you so much to Heidi Pullman of Sundays Design Studio for partnering with me on this post.
